The Baby's Name
by Jessie Cameron Alison
1957

You are heir to a "name," Little Babe,
Though you are too infant to know
A fine, noble name -
Be you proud of that name! -
You will learn its true worth, as you grow.

In name known to Fame, Little Lad
In Scotland, in brave days of old,
That honor would bring
To country and King,
When men were courageous and bold.

You may like it, or not, Little Man -
And nicknames no doubt you will hear -
But now that you bear it,
In honor you share it
With chieftain, and poet, and peer.

Editor's Note: This poem was written, with the Clan Cameron in mind, to the author's cousin (first cousin, twice removed) George Frederic Cameron Aders.
